Good afternoon,

I wanted to provide you all with some updates about what Staff has been doing this week in support of the homelessness initiative.

A large portion of my time has been spent meeting with many of Sanford’s nonprofit agencies, touring their facilities, and asking questions. I was so thankful to be able to visit Family Promise, HAVEN, the Men’s Shelter and Women’s Shelter, and Christian United Outreach of Lee County. Thank you to everyone who has met with me so far! I look forward to meeting with more of you in the future.

Subcommittee meetings are also starting to be arranged. I sent out the availability forms this morning, so by Monday afternoon I should have all initial committee meetings scheduled. I will send an email to let you know when and where each of your meetings will be held.

Here is a message from Karen Kennedy about what the staff has been doing this week:

“City Staff met this week to provide an update on the homelessness project status to the City Manager, Mayor Mann, Councilman Taylor and Councilman Buckels. Topics centered on reviewing the original objectives and goals for the initiative as well as discussing feedback received from some committee members.

In addition, city staff met with Terry Allebaugh, project consultant, to discuss the same topics. We talked about numerous issues such as governance, emergency shelter needs, the initial mission and timetable for the group, and clarifications on future tasks to include revisiting the SWOT analysis from the February Homelessness Summit. The meeting on July 27 will incorporate some of the results of these conversations.”

Lastly, don’t forget about our next group meeting on July 27th in the Gordon Wicker Room at the Lee County Government Center. This meeting will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and dinner will be provided.
